You’re in college – you WILL develop a caffeine dependency.

So….allow me to fuel your growing addiction by writing about one of the coolest caffeine-stations Rochester has to offer: Joe Bean Coffee Roasters. They’re located on University Ave in a pleasantly industrial setting – only about 10 minutes from Naz.

This place smells fantastic.

Joe Bean is a nice place, and I mean nice. They’re the Rolls-Royce of coffee dealerships. If you like coffee…GO HERE. They’ll hook you up. If you’re not sure if you like coffee…GO HERE. They can teach you what you need to know. They are experts, and they will tell you things about coffee that even the coffee doesn’t know. So there’s that for starters.

Delicious deeds are underway…

When it comes to choosing what to buy, I have a little philosophy of my own:

Consider what’s available. Most coffee shops offer a variety of options, from traditional drip coffee, to iced coffee, to various espresso-based beverages.

Choose the right process. Pour over coffee is something I’m seeing more and more often. It’s simple and delicious, and looks really neat. Some people claim its the best way to make coffee. But to me, its something that can be picked up pretty easily at home with some experimentation and practice.

When I go to a cafe, I almost always go the espresso route. Here’s why:

Most other methods of brewing coffee are relatively easy to replicate at home. But unless you own a coffee shop, you probably don’t have access to a $3,000 (or more) piece of coffee-making magnificence. Take advantage of this glorious machine. My suggestion? Joe Bean delivers a phenomenal Macchiato – a shot of espresso with an ounce and a half of steamed milk.

My flight….post consumption, of course.

I broke my usual habits this time around and ordered a coffee flight, featuring three of their daily coffee offerings. While I enjoyed the ability to explore and compare the different flavors, the experience was more like a wine tasting. I’ll probably stick to the espresso machine myself, but if you’re looking to expand your coffee horizons, this is the place to do it. Go to Joe Bean! Here’s their website, definitely check it out!
