There are so many ways to get involved with the arts here on campus! Theatre, music, and art are some of our most popular majors. Here are some of my favorite clubs/ways to get involved!

AMTAS-The American Music Therapy Association for Students
Okay, so I’m a little biased. But for real, AMTAS is a great club and awesome way for non-majors to get involved! I think one of the coolest things that AMTAS does here at Naz is DRUM CIRCLES! Music therapy is very involved with world music, and percussion and drums are some of our favorite instruments, so we love getting together and jamming out! AMTAS also sponsors advocacy events and a regional music therapy conference every year! If you’re someone who doesn’t know a lot about music therapy, this is a great way to learn! Who knows, maybe some of you undeclared students will find an unknown love for it!

Art Therapy Club
Interested in art and psychology? This is the club for you. Art therapy is a hugely growing profession, and although we have only a graduate program, no undergrad, we make up for it with art therapy club! It’s an awesome way for our art majors (or non-majors) to learn about art therapy and get a feel for it before going on to grad school! The club is also sponsoring a trip to the Western NY Art Therapy Association Meet and Greet this Saturday, September 13th! (I know, this blog is getting published kinda late to really let people know about it.) But they also sponsor a lot of similar events throughout the year!

Dance Club
So this is super exciting! Dance Club is new at Naz! We have previously had a Dance Team that was audition only, but now we have a club that anyone can join no matter what your experience! It even offers an opportunity for you do make your own dances, because it is 100% student choreographed! They meet Sundays at 6PM so go get your groove on!

Theatre League
Theatre league is pretty much exactly what it sounds like…the club associated with the theatre department here at Naz! They sponsor tons of masterclasses for students here. Last year they even had a dance masterclass with a cast member from the Broadway cast of Wicked! They also provide food at receptions after some of the productions, and sponsor the Movement and Dance (MAD) every spring, which is a series of dance intensives over the course of a weekend! It’s a great way for both majors and non-majors to get involved!

NAfME- The National Association for Music Education
NAfME is a professional organization for all music educators. The Naz chapter focuses mainly on uniting and preparing future music educators for their careers in music. This year they’ll be hosting a department-wide talent show for the entire campus, doing a clothing fundraiser, and will be traveling to the Winter NYSSMA Conference in Rochester and the Eastern Division NAfME conference in Rhode Island! As a club they discuss student teaching, prepare for the edTPA, practice they’re secondary instruments, and most importantly, promote the love and learning of music. It’s not necessarily a club for non-majors, but still a really important resource on campus that everyone should be aware of!

Almost every vein of the arts here on campus has some outlet for non-majors to get involved…so there’s no excuse! Go enrich your lives with some of our amazing arts programs here at Naz!
