Hi accepted students! My name is Hayley. I just wanted to take this time to congratulate you on your acceptance. Nazareth is an amazing place because we have this great balance of awesome rigorous academics, along with this budding social scene. So what I wanted to do today was share one of my favorite memories from that social scene that I’m mentioning. So when I was a freshman, I decided to audition for the improv group on campus. I came in as an English major, not a theatre major. That’s one of the great benefits of going to Nazareth: you don’t necessarily have to be of any particular major in order to participate in certain extracurriculars. So, I came in, and auditioned; the audition process was different than I thought it would be. It was fun of course, but it was also every relaxed and a comforting environment. So I went in and was one of two freshmen accepted. And, as of late, as a senior now, I’m the co-leader of the group, which is an amazing feeling. So, making sure everyone feels comfortable when I audition people into the group is so cool to me. So improv, in a way, has mimicked my college experience because you learn how to listen to one another, for example, as you do in college courses. You learn how to make “yes” choices and take risks, and do big things. I’m in the process of applying to grad schools right now, and that involves a big decision, but improv has mimicked that for me. The knowledge that I’ve gained in improv has just transferred over to so many different aspects of my life and honestly, having that experience in an extracurricular is something that happens all the time at Nazareth. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is sharing a story that is similar in that regard. I can’t wait to see what activities you guys decide to get yourselves involved with at Nazareth and I can’t wait to see you guys here! Congratulations again!
