Every night while I was living at the Great Huts, we got hand drumming lessons from the head of our program. We learned several different patterns of drumming including styles indigenous to both Jamaica and Africa. My friend Marissa also got some good GoPro footage of us rehearsing some of our drum circles! Enjoy!

 

The pattern we are playing in this video is called kpanlogo and is a tradition Ghanan drum style!

This is just one of the many drum styles we learned, and I’m very excited to bring these styles back and teach them to our professor of percussion, as the music therapy percussion tech class has a high emphasis on world drumming!
