If you’ve been reading any of the recent blog posts, you’ll see a recurring theme: Rochester can get cold and snowy in the winter. Thankfully, here at Naz, we don’t always have to venture outside to get to classes. Although they don’t connect to every building, we have underground tunnels on campus that link a few of the academic building to a few of the dorms. Even if you live in a dorm or have class in a building that’s not connected, you can still pick up the tunnels in a building that does connect so you’re only shivering for half your walk.

One other plus of the tunnels on campus is the art within them. Over the years, art students and various clubs and organizations have left their mark on the walls, making for a colorful trip to wherever you’re headed. There’s really no way to accurately capture the beauty of the tunnels with words, so I’ve selected a few of my favorite murals to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. I have a reason for liking some of them, but some just make me happy whenever I pass by. I apologize in advance for the dark images, it is still a tunnel, after all. You’ll just have to visit to see them in their full glory!

Painting of Echo Circle outside of the Peckham entrance.
Sunflowers are one of my favorite types of flower and I love how these add some color to the space by the Library and the Shults Center.
A little encouragement for the walk to and from Elizabeth George Hall.
I used to see this one every day when I left Kearney Hall to go to the dining hall or to class. I love the message it sends about how what matters is how you see yourself as opposed to what the world sees (at least that’s how I interpreted it).
This is a newer one, and I actually got to see it as it was painted. I love the final result and the deep purple color.
Another one I saw as it was in progress, in the hall leading to Peckham and Golisano. I know it’s random, but it reminds me of my elementary school because our colors were green and white and our mascot was a lion, so it feels like I’ve come full circle.
Also on the path to Golisano and Peckham.
I love all of the bright colors in this one. It’s in the same hallway as the last two and it really brightens the space.
Ok, this isn’t a painting exactly, but it’s a really cool element in the hall that leads to George Hall. Last year, Student Activities had students paint tiles to be hung up and this is the end result.
This is a close up of some of my favorites. I love how many of the different groups, clubs, and viewpoints that we have on campus are represented in these tiles.
