Trying to make the decision about what college you should spend the next four years at can be very intimidating if you don’t really know what you’re getting into. In this blog, I’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about life at Nazareth from the perspective of a soon-to-be graduate who went through it all.

“What size are the dorm beds?” Twin XL! All the dorm beds at Nazareth are twin XL, so plan to buy sheets and other bedding for that size mattress. And when I say all of the beds, I mean ALL of them. Yours won’t be different.

“What should I bring to keep in my dorm room?” Depending on if you’re in a double, triple, or suite (O’Connor 1 building only), you will have a different amount of space to keep your things, so make sure to coordinate with your roommates once they are assigned by housing on what each of you will bring, because you won’t be able to fit two mini fridges or three TVs. A small refrigerator can fit under most of the beds, a 32 inch TV can fit comfortably on top of dressers or desks, and small bins can fit on shelves or under beds as well. Make sure to bring a shower caddy to keep your things in to make taking your stuff to and from the shower easier.

“What meal plan is the best?” It all depends on how you eat. The Freedom Naz plan includes unlimited swipes into the Lourdes & Kearney Dining Hall and $150 dining dollars. Or choose between the Naz 225, Naz 180 or Naz 120 plans. All meal plans can be used at other campus food locations like the the Cab in the Shults Center or Cafe Sorelle in the basement of Golisano Academic Center (GAC).

“What is there to do on campus besides classes?” Naz has a great campus life scene. Join one of over fifty clubs sponsored by the Undergraduate Association, go to on-campus events planned by Campus Activities Board like Late Night Bite or Grocery Bingo, or attend one of the many yoga, Zumba, or self-defense classes offered by Intramurals and Recreation. Don’t forget to take advantage of free shows in the Arts Center or participate in community engagement opportunities with the Center for Civic Engagement.

“What are classes really like?”  Small and personal! Most classes at Nazareth consist of 15-20 students on average, but sometimes required classes like history, religion, and philosophy have around 30 students to accommodate everyone who needs to take them. Classes within your major tend to be smaller and more personalized by the professor. Most professors at Naz will have all of their student’s names memorized a few weeks into the semester because they really care! Make sure to bring a notebook or laptop with you to class for notes and other activities.
