It feels so good to be back! It’s my senior year and I’m going to make it count, especially in my position as a student ambassador. I’ve had this job in the Marketing and Communications department at Nazareth since December of my freshman year. I remember being so nervous yet excited at the possibility of becoming way more involved on campus and likely having my face be a representation of the college all over social media. When I read the description on Handshake I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Handshake is the job and internship platform Nazareth uses for the majority of the on campus positions. It’s how I’ve found all of the roles I’ve served in at Nazareth over the years and I’ve even written another blog post about why these on campus positions are so special to me.

I applied like I would any other job and secured an interview. I did my best to treat the interview like I would for other positions in my future. I took it seriously, had questions prepared, and thought about how I could prove that I was the best candidate for this position. Fortunately, I had a fellow classmate also apply and we both got hired on the spot and what I still love to this day about the position is that I get to work with so many amazing people. There’s no competition here, just teamwork! Myself and other student workers for the team contribute by writing blog posts like these, promoting and attending on campus events and sometimes partaking in any official marketing videos or media for the college. I’d say the biggest perk to the position is being able to get paid to do something that I love.

On campus jobs on resumes and in portfolios show that you’re eager to become involved. They can show that you find a way to balance your hobbies, academics and work related tasks. Plus, working in an on campus position can help you make connections throughout the college, outside your area of study, that could potentially help you after you graduate. I’ve met some of the wonderful faces that work behind the scenes on campus, that I’m happy to say I now know because of this position. I’ve never felt more at home at Nazareth and I know it’s because I took that step in my college career to pursue being a Student Ambassador.

If you or someone you know wants to become more involved on campus, check out any position openings on Handshake. My best advice is to take your Handshake profile seriously! Spruce it up and let it be an accurate representation of who you are as a person and as a worker. Also, don’t be afraid to ask any other student worker how they got the position that you’re interested in. Some positions may not be listed on Handshake, and what a good way to meet new friends and see new faces by sparking up a conversation. I hope if you pursue working on campus that you have as wonderful of an experience as I have, I’m sure going to miss it after I graduate!
