Welcome to part two of my early decision series (you can catch up on part one here)! The next student is one that has already studied abroad, used her spark grant, found jobs on campus with great lasting friendships; all by her sophomore year. Hard work definitely pays off, and you can easily see it through the eyes of….

Emma Clive

Major: Music Education and Horn Performance

Year: Sophomore, class of 2021

Q: What made you choose early decision to Naz?

A: “I chose to apply early decision to Naz because I knew this is where I wanted to be. As a Music Education and Horn Performance double major I wanted to make sure my chances of making the cut and getting scholarships were high. I also knew that Nazareth would give me my package sooner if I applied early decision and I was able to know where I was going for sure by January of my senior year. My parents were really supportive of my early decision application because I auditioned in October, and I needed to know if I made it into the department so I could schedule other auditions if necessary.  I also specifically came here because of the structure of the music education program, and because it gave me the option to study abroad using the Spark Grant. In a degree where most schools don’t have the option to study abroad, I was able to study abroad in Austria and Italy for a music course for 3 weeks. It was an amazing experience, and was one of the main reasons I chose to attend Nazareth.”

“Luckily, I was accepted and decided to come to Naz (with not much persuasion needed). I was so glad to have made my mind up midway through senior year because the stress was gone. I had found my future home for the next four years, the place that would help me grow as a person, professional and musician.”

Q: How did you discover Naz?

A: “I found Nazareth because there are not many colleges in New York State that offer music education degrees. I only had so many options, but Nazareth differed from many of the other schools because it offered a well rounded education with the liberal arts requirements. Nazareth stressed the importance of individuality and advocated that each student was important, with small class sizes, and a career coach for every student. Who wouldn’t want to be here with all the aspects that make our school so unique?”

Next, this student is in her last year at Nazareth and has had many experiences since making her early decision. Here is..

Charlotte Stevens

Major: Music Therapy

Year: Senior, class of 2019

Q: What made you choose early decision to Naz?

A: “I chose to come to Naz because of the music therapy program. I had been struggling all throughout my senior year of high school to find something I wanted to study for the next four years of my life. My mother actually went to Naz for the first two years of her college career, so naturally I wanted nothing to do with the school. However, once we visited Naz for the first time, I realized I didn’t want to go anywhere else. I absolutely loved this campus and everything about it, so I realized that I had to do early decision.”

Q: How have you changed since coming to Naz?

A: “I have changed so much since I came to Naz. This past summer I spent the entire time in Wisconsin Dells, WI at Easter Seals Wisconsin Respite Camp as the music programmer. I fell in love with the campers and the work I did which made me realize I was on the right path as a future music therapist. Before coming to Naz, I barely wanted to leave home for more than a day. I spent the entire summer in a completely different state twelve hours away from my family and everyone I knew. I don’t think I could have ever done it without the experience I’ve had at Naz.”
