For a lot of parents, their child leaving for school brings about a lot of questions. Here are the top nine questions I am asked by parents/guardians on tour!

“Can my child bring a car?”

Yes! All students have the option to bring a car to campus. Parking for residential students is conveniently located either behind or next to their residence hall. Parking passes can be easily purchased prior to move-in day through this link

“How often do you see your parents/guardians?”

I am a twin. My brother went 12 hours away and I went 12 minutes away from home. Our parents would joke that they would see my brother more frequently than they would see me. To be honest, it just depends on the student. For me, I really enjoyed all the activities on campus throughout the week and the weekend. I would say during my first year and second year I saw my parents during breaks or once to twice a semester.

“Can siblings come to visit?”

Yes! We have siblings weekend in the spring and family weekend in the fall.

“How easy is it to find resources on campus?”

It is so easy to find the resources you need on campus whether it be the Registrar or The Center for Spirituality. The easiest way to find what you are looking for is to use the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the website. All of the center’s websites are up to date with location and contact information.

“What if my child needs a prescription?”

Our Health and Counseling Center has lots of resources for students. Making an appointment is easy. Your student can do so by phone or our student health portal! All prescriptions your child has can be sent from the Wegmans Pittsford pharmacy to campus!

“How far is the closest grocery store to campus?”

Pittsford Plaza is just a short walk from campus. Here your student will find stores like Five Below, Chipotle, Barnes & Noble, Trader Joe’s, and Wegmans! The village of Pittsford is also a short walk from campus where your student can loan a bike from Naz bikes and bike along the Erie Canal. A local favorite is Pittsford Dairy ice cream, which is also in our dining commons

“What options exist for experiential learning/internships?”

Our Center for Life’s Work is conveniently located on the first floor of Golisano Academic Center. Here, your student will find their assigned Career Coach based on their major! As early as the summer before your student arrives on campus, they are able to set up an appointment. Your student will individually work with their Career Coach to finalize their resume, find internships, and prep for interviews. What is great about Nazareth’s Center for Life’s Work is after graduation, these Career Coaches are still available to your student. In addition to your student’s Career Coach, everyone has an Academic Advisor, this is typically one of your student’s professors. Each student will meet with their Academic Advisor each semester before registering for courses. What is great about being a smaller liberal arts college is that your student will get to know their Academic Advisor and Career Coach well to better aid in the internship process.

“How easy it is to find campus jobs?”

Each semester, there is a job fair as well as a club fair on campus. All of the clubs on campus will be in attendance and some of the campus jobs that are hiring. All jobs on campus are also posted on Handshake, our resource for current jobs on campus.

“Where can I send them cookies?”

When your student receives a letter or package, they will receive an email that they need to pick something up. Your student will present their Student Identification Card to confirm their identity and then will receive their items. In my experience, Amazon Prime is still “2-Day shipping” and Nana’s cookies are still fresh and unopened!

“Where are events posted?”

Each week your student will receive an update about the upcoming events on campus. “This Week At Naz” is great for seeing when games are or when the next “Late Night Bite” is! In addition to this email, the Nazareth App has a master list of all events on campus, finance information, class schedules, grades, access to Handshake, and Athletic information! Directly from the Naz app, your student is able to add the events they are interested in to their calendar!
