It’s a new year and a new semester, which means that being the humans we are, it’s time to reflect and set new goals. Some I’ve set for myself are broader than others, but have equal importance in the grand scheme of things. Feel free to use these as inspiration or a starting point for deciding what you want to achieve in the new year or for when you get to Naz!

Goal #1: Read more books

In my notebook, this goal actually says, “Read x # of books.” I haven’t decided on an exact number I want to read, yet. I was a huge bookworm when I was in elementary school, but as school became more difficult and classes required more books to be read, I found myself spending less time reading for leisure. In 2019, this is exactly what I want to do. The Nazareth College Library has a plethora of books that I can’t wait to delve into. I’m in the library a lot while classes are in session, but I want to spend a larger amount of time reading here than I normally do. I hope to expand my memories of the time spent here beyond cramming for exams and writing papers. I definitely collected enough books over December break to begin my goal!

Goal #2: Explore Rochester

It’s easy to become consumed in homework and studies on campus, which is why I’m bringing this goal into the new year. I set a similar goal over the summer, but with more of a focus on exploring the food and drink scene in Rochester. While I want to continue with this goal because there are plenty of great local restaurants here, I want to also visit or revisit places like the Memorial Art Gallery, George Eastman House, and Artisan Works. Growing up in this city, there are so many places I went as a kid that I haven’t been to in years. It’ll be nice to spend some weekend free time exploring more of this city, even if it’s only for an hour or two. Be sure to check out more blogs by Naz students about places to explore in Rochester, like this one or this one.

Goal #3: Meet more people at Naz

Being a senior, I decided to reflect upon the last three years at Naz and observe how I’ve used my time here. If I could do one thing differently, I would talk to more people. As a commuter student, I found it too easy to simply drive to class, sit there and take notes, and then drive back home to do homework, especially when I was a freshman. As I’ve grown as a student and overall person throughout these last three years, I’ve forced myself to network and communicate even when it may not be the most comfortable task for an introvert like me.Trust me, this is something everyone needs to do. The friends I have made at Naz are life-long connections that have made my entire college experience worthwhile. As I approach my final semester, I hope to meet even more new faces, with the goal being to meet more students outside of my own classes.

Now that my goals for 2019 are out on the internet, I guess I really have to stick to these or else people can actually hold me accountable! 2019 is going to be a big year for me, as I’m looking forward to graduating and finding an apartment in the city. Stay tuned if you want to follow along!
