There’s a lot to be thankful for this season. From the obvious things like friends and family to smaller aspects like the sunshine and a good grade on a test. My community members and I in O’Connor 2 talk about the things we’re grateful for just in passing, but I decided to sit down with them and have them reflect on what the semester and being at Naz, in general, has brought them. These were a few of their answers:

Naz’s Center for Public History at the Frederick Douglass Exhibit at the U of R

Grace Caternolo (History): I’m thankful for the supportive faculty that help and guide me through my endeavors at Naz. They create great relationships with all their students and provide us with opportunities that I wouldn’t have had anywhere else. Being able to work hands-on with my professors in the Center for Public History has given the chance to work with archives and actual historical documents, which obviously helps me with my major.

Emma Clive (Music Education and Performance): The campus is so beautiful. Every season we experience on campus is just so pretty. In that beauty, there’s a place for everyone. If you want to go for a walk, study outside, or have an on-campus photo shoot, there’s a backdrop almost everywhere on campus. Plus, Naz always feels like home. Even in the stress that college brings sometimes, I know this campus will always be a calming place for me.

In addition to being warm, the tunnels are full of great murals!

Rachel Daly (Dance and Social Work): The tunnels. I have arthritis so I’m extremely sensitive to cold, so the tunnels make it easy for me to get from my room (in O’Connor) to George Hall (where my dance classes are held) without going outside. It seems like a really simple thing to be thankful for, but when I’d much rather walk through the tunnels than go outside when it’s barely even 0 degrees.

Devyn Chase (Political Science): I know it’s cheesy, but the people. This is obviously the time of year to be thankful, and what better thing to be thankful for than the people that I live with every day in my community. Sometimes, I think we forget how much we rely on and need the people around us, and this time of year (with the stress of midterms and finals) is when we need each other the most.

Naz Crew Team

Michael Ryan (3+3 Law Program): The crew team. We had a great season and we increased our numbers. We’re trying to become an established team here at Naz, and with the number of freshmen we had join the team this season, I really think it’s going to happen soon. I’m really excited for the future of crew, and I’m grateful for the team this year and the family we’ve become.

Erika Ly (Psychology and Inclusive Childhood Education): Being on the dance team is a beautiful and encouraging way to supplement my Dance minor. We are a tight-knit family who genuinely cares about and supports each other, and I don’t know what I’d do without them. We went to Disney as a team to compete last year and I felt extremely close with them and I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world.

Steve Greene

Sean Saville (Music Business): My guitar professor, Steve Greene. He is such a kind person and he has helped me improve as a guitarist since being here the last year and a half. I’m very lucky to be learning from him alongside my fellow guitarists and it’s nice to be around musicians who care about what they do.

Marc Gabriel (Music Business and Political Science): I’m extremely thankful for Pittsford Dairy right down the road. When it’s warm out, I live for the ice cream and milkshakes, but now that’s it’s colder out, I always go for the eggnog. It’s one of those rare places that every college town seems to have, but ours is a bit more special. Also, Derrick from the Cab because he always makes my food just right.
