“Where is my dorm?!”

  • Before move-in, you will receive your dorm placement from Residential Life, and a list of what to bring and what not to bring.
  • When you arrive on campus, you will be greeted by our fantastic Orientation Leaders to direct you to the arrival line for each residence hall. Orientation leaders and student athletes will help carry your belongings into the dorm.

“What should I bring?!”

  • I recommend you label each of your boxes/bags with your FULL NAME, room number, and cell phone. I have not personally had any belongings lost, but this way if something is misplaced it will get back to you.
  • Besides what is on the provided college packing list, I recommend every student bring a fan, extra charger, extra shower shoes, something for friends to sit on, and a door stop.
  • There are many local beaches and areas to sit outside, so something like a frisbee, beach towel, and swimsuit should be on your packing list!

“When do I get my things fire sprayed?”

  • Have tapestries, curtains, or any other fabric items you want to hang in your room? There are fire spray locations around campus during Move-In weekend.

“What can’t I bring?”

  • Besides what is on the “NO” list, looking back, as hard as it is to admit, I may have brought a few too many clothes.

“What if I forget something?”

  • Target and Walmart are both located about 15 minutes from campus, in Victor and in Henrietta.
  • Pittsford Plaza is just a short walk from campus. Here, you will find stores like Five Below, Chipotle, Barnes & Noble, Trader Joe’s, and Wegmans!

“Where should we go to lunch before my parents/guardians drive home?”

“What about my prescriptions?”

“Where do I get my student ID?”

  • You have two options. I ordered mine over the summer and it was mailed to my house. You could also wait until Orientation.
  • You will also get a security escort alarm that works throughout our campus Blue Light Service. Blue light phones may be used anytime you need to contact Campus Safety, not just in emergencies. Simply press the button. They also work within the tunnel system.

“What about my flu shot?”

  •  Each fall, there are flu shot clinic times on campus for students to get their flu shot.

“Pro tip for avoiding the ‘I can’t find the ___”‘ frustration on move-in day?”

  • In the shuffle of move-in day, the thing that was hardest to find was scissors and Command picture/poster hanging strips. I recommend the first thing that you bring out of your car is a bucket or bag with your move-in-day essentials! Things like scissors, wall-safe tape, Command strips, Lysol wipes, paper towels, and a doorstop are all great for this bucket. A first aid kit with Advil and Band-aids may also be helpful.
  • I especially recommend you bring water and snacks.
