Take it from a seasoned tour guide, these are my top nine most asked questions from students on tour!

“Why did you pick Nazareth College?”

  • I often joke that I picked Naz because my favorite color is purple. Now while that may be part of the reason, the true reason I picked Naz is for the community values within each of us. The day after I attended #NazBound, I felt like I wanted to go back and relive it again, and again. For me it wasn’t the purple and gold ice cream in the dining commons that day or even the shirts they gave us, it was the interactions I had with students, faculty, and staff every time I visited Naz and continue to have as a student. There is something about a “Naz Student,” that I have yet to find anywhere else. The genuine kindness towards strangers or friends, the integrity shown by all, and the diligence of students towards their studies is part of what makes a Naz student. I chose Naz nearly three years ago and I am more than happy with my decision.

“What is one thing you wish you knew before you came to Naz?”

  • It’s not that I wish I knew something, it is more of how surprised I was by something. I never knew how close I would become with people in such a short amount of time. The bonds you make with roommates, classmates, and other students even before winter break of your first year, are bonds that will truly last a lifetime. There are “inside jokes” or memories that my friends and I still talk about that happened in our first semester! I think even beyond your first semester, I am shocked by how fast we can all become like family to one another.

“What is the most challenging part about transitioning from high school to college?”

  • I think for a lot of students the time adjustment is rather challenging. In high school, you may be in class from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., have extracurricular activities until 8:00 p.m., and then do homework, but in college, you may only have two classes a day. At Naz, classes are usually at most around an hour and fifteen minutes, so the biggest adjustment for a lot of students is time management.

“What do you do when you are not in class?”

  • Many students will attend professors’ office hours, join clubs, work part-time jobs, and or play on sports teams. Whatever you choose to do with your time makes it meaningful to you! Check out a list of all of our clubs/activities here!

“What’s the food like?”

  • Short answer – it’s good. Long answer – to be honest, this was one of my concerns when looking at colleges because I am a vegetarian. However, I quickly realized the different amount of options available. In our dining commons for lunch and dinner, there is always the salad bar, the fruit bar, and a vegan station. It has been so helpful that the staff is aware of what is in each dish and also that we have signs with the ingredients of the food right next to the dish! In three years, I’ve never had a problem finding something delicious to eat every day!

“What is there to do off-campus?”

  • Pittsford Plaza is only about half a mile away from campus. Pittsford Plaza has a Chipotle, T.J. Maxx, Barnes & Noble, Trader Joe’s, and everyone’s favorite: Wegmans!
  • Eastview Mall is about fifteen minutes from campus and has a ton of shops and dining options. My favorites are Von Maur, Lululemon, and Annie’s Pretzels!
  • Nazareth College is located outside of the Village of Pittsford and is within walking distance to the Erie Canal. Many students will rent bikes or hammocks for free to explore this area. In the warmer months, you may see students enjoying ice cream at a local favorite, Pittsford Dairy, and walking along the canal.

“What if I need help from a professor, where do I go?”

  • Every professor at Naz has office hours every single week. These are times when professors are able to help students with assignments or questions for exams. This is also a great time to introduce yourself to your professors! If the time does not work for you, my professors have always been available to meet outside of class.

“Will I just be another student in a lecture hall?”

  • Never! Here at Nazareth, your professors will know you by name. Because all of my professors know me personally, this has helped me to find internships and other experiences. Our average class size is 16.

“What time is your earliest class? What about your latest?”

  • I have only ever taken one 8:00 a.m. class. Other than that, my schedule changes every semester. The most frequent times I have classes are about 9:25 a.m. until 10:40 a.m., 10:45 a.m. until 12:05 p.m., 1:10 p.m. until 2:25 p.m. and I have the occasional 6:00 p.m. to roughly 8:40 p.m. class. The nice thing about college is that you are sometimes able to pick when your courses are and because of that I have not had a Friday class since the fall of my first year!
