As my sophomore year is coming to an end, my friends and I have begun looking for off-campus housing options. We are looking at the Park Ave area which is a great spot to live for young college students, especially in the spring with big events like Park Ave Fest and the Saint Patrick’s Day parade. During this search, I’ve thought a lot about all the things I’ll miss about living on campus. I think the main thing I will miss is the athletics gym down by the stadium. It is not the largest gym and it doesn’t have shiny equipment, but it has everything I need and want such as multiple squat racks, a bench press, trap bars and a wide variety of kettlebells and dumbbells. It’s perfect for my teammates and I to train/lift every day. It’s great because we can play our own music and it’s only a short walk from all the dorms; including where I live in O’Connor 2. I’ll definitely still be there a lot, but I’ll have to leave for my workouts much more ahead of time than I’m used to.

I’m also going to miss quick and easy access to the dining hall. This was huge for me and my friends because we eat a ton! I definitely took full advantage of having unlimited swipes at the Lourdes Dining Hall. It’s really convenient to walk over to the dining hall when you are craving something, like ice cream, or just a drink from the Coca Cola machine (the Vitamin Water is so good). I usually get a couple of eggs and a bagel in the morning, or an omelet with ham, cheese, peppers and onions fresh from the grill. Lunch is different every day but my personal favorite is a sandwich from the panini press station and, for dinner, I always mix it up. Turkey, chicken parmigiana and spaghetti and meatballs are some of my personal favorites. Even once I move off campus, I can still choose to keep a certain amount of swipes for the dining hall and I can also use my dining dollars at the Cab which would be a perfect take-away meal to eat when I get home.

One last thing that I will miss is the ability to study without distractions. My favorite spots were downstairs in the library or an empty room in Peckham. It’s a lot easier to eliminate distractions when you live on campus and you can just walk to a quiet place and get your work done.

I’m really excited to move off campus and start a new chapter of my college book, but I will miss a lot from being on campus. I am moving into a house with my friends but we all study different things and take different classes, so we’re used to just meeting back at the dorms. Not having that on-campus space is another thing I will have to get used to, but I’m sure we will make it work! I’ve had so much fun my freshman year in Lourdes and sophomore year in O’Connor 2 and I am excited about this next chapter!
