“Yoga means union. It is a state of being in the present, focusing on the here and now. It’s a path to self discovery, fine-tuned awareness, and unification of the mind, body and soul.” – Yoga By Candace

One of the best things that I have discovered at Nazareth is YOGA. As an incoming freshman, I was feeling intensely stressed out about being in a new place, my classes, and just life in general. When I first started going to Night Light Yoga with Lynne Boucher, the director for the Center for Spirituality, I was a little wary of how much I would enjoy it. I wasn’t sure it would be right for me since I was not Hindu or very flexible for that matter. But, I am so very glad that I decided to branch out and try it; it has become my number one stress reliever and my favorite way to get a workout in! (And I realized that yoga isn’t just a Hindu practice!)

During yoga on campus, we practice in the beautiful Linehan Chapel in Golisano Academic Center, and have many different classes and teachers during the week! The Center for Spirituality and Intramurals and Recreation hold Night Light yoga 3 nights a week, and Midday Yoga 2 days a week, along with other classes so no matter your schedule you will always be able to find time to make it to the mat. 🙂

Here is one of our amazing yoga classes- downward dog time!

We even do yoga outside on the lawn of Golisano. These are pictures from this past summer during Orientation Leader training- we were finding our sense of community 🙂

So, as you can see yoga has become a very important part of my life- the way that I find inner peace (and a good workout), and I hope all of you will try it as well!

We are all about yoga here at Naz and have done yoga on paddle boards, poolside reggae yoga, and find excuses to integrate it into our on-campus physical therapy clinics.
