This semester, I decided to audition for Call4Backup, and I got in! Call4Backup is the oldest and only all-female a cappella group at Nazareth. We were first established in 1998 and have been going strong ever since! We currently have fourteen girls, ranging from freshmen to seniors. Right now, we rehearse two days a week for a total of three hours.

We are completely student run, with no faculty or staff involvement, and we produce fun repertoire arranged by our own members. We sing a “One Last Time” mashup by Ariana Grande, “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michealson, “Grace Kelly” by Mika, and many more (all arranged by our students!).

Call4Backup performs in a variety of settings each semester, from collaborations with fellow a cappella groups on and off campus, to open mic nights, and ending each semester with a large concert. This year, we decided to audition for the ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) competition, and we were accepted! We will be competing on February 27th at the University of Rochester. You can watch our audition tape here.

We recently opened up for one of R.I.T.’s a cappella groups: Eight Beat Measure. The venue was perfect for performing; they provided handheld microphones for all of us and we also had the chance to pick out our lighting display. It was an awesome experience, especially to perform in front of a big crowd and meet another a cappella group right around the corner. We aim for each audience member to leave our shows having laughed themselves silly and experienced some wonderful music making!

Nazareth is FULL of awesome opportunities for music majors like studying abroad, trips to music therapy conferences, service trips to Jamaica, and singing backup for Josh Groban!
